Politics at work

"If you don't play politics, politics will play you".

The above is a comment from one of my colleagues. Want to know what I think?

To me, "if you play politics, politics will eventually play you".

Office politics is a vicious cycle. In the first place, things didn't work like this over here until this year. After seeing a record of thirteen good officers leave my department last year, the department swiftly hired ten officers to fill in the gap. Some of these officers are older than me while the rest are about my age. The ugly thing is, politics in the office is starting to show its ugly head. And the champion of these are actually these new officers. Perhaps they are still in their bubble. Things just don't work like that over here. No matter how much politics you play, it doesn't guarantee you a promotion. Face the truth. This is civil service. You might win the favour of the boss but the bosses themselves are playing their own politics too and you don't know when they are telling the truth. It doesn't take a genius to work here. We just need quality officers but the new ones are not showing it. All they know is to play politics. They can continue to do it because I believe one day politics will play them out.
